Settings and functions

Where can I have the device adjusted if I order it online?

You can use the settings of your usual CPAP therapy on the DreamStation or Dream Station Go. The user manual explains the steps clearly.

Are you allowed to adjust the device yourself?

You can adjust the device yourself at any time. The individual operating steps can be found in the user manual. For further help, we recommend that you contact your sleep laboratory or your doctor.

What is the Flex Degree setting?

This allows you to set the level of air pressure relief you feel when you exhale during therapy. This feature can be enabled or disabled by your specialist dealer. When your specialist dealer enables the "Flex" feature, they will already set a level on the device that is specific to you. You can increase or decrease this setting to a value between 1 and 3. The setting of "1" represents a small amount of pressure relief, while higher numbers represent a greater amount of pressure relief.

What is the ramp function?

To help you get used to the inspiratory pressure of your sleep therapy, you can ask your provider to set a ramp. This means you specify a low initial pressure setting and a time period in which the device increases the pressure from the initial ramp pressure to the therapy pressure setting over the specified time.

What is sleep apnea?

Chlafapnea is a common sleep disorder characterized by repeated pauses in breathing during sleep.

These interruptions, also called apneas, are caused by the collapse of the upper airway, which prevents oxygen from reaching the lungs.

Apneas can have a significant impact on your energy levels, mental performance and long-term health. Therefore, do not ignore potentially dangerous symptoms such as snoring and excessive daytime sleepiness, but consult a sleep medicine specialist. Treatment can help you get the sleep you need to feel like yourself every day.

Which sleep mask is right for you?

Sleep masks at a glance

Your mask has a major impact on the effectiveness of your therapy. It should meet your personal needs and not cause leakage or pressure points on the face. Also, talk to your doctor about your personal habits and needs to find out which model is right for you.

We offer you masks from the DreamWear series, which allow a high degree of freedom of movement thanks to their innovative design and are available in the Philips online shop. You can also get these and other Philips sleep therapy masks from a retailer of your choice.

Cpap bipap difference?

Even if CPAP and BiPAP are identical in terms of the mask, functionality and opening effect, the two ventilation methods also differ in a few points.

The most crucial difference is the air pressure. CPAP only has one air pressure setting, while BiPAP has two. That is, a CPAP machine applies consistent pressure to the airway, while a BiPAP mask applies higher pressure when inhaling and lower pressure when exhaling. As a result, CPAP users have to expend more force when exhaling than BiPAP users.

What is position dependent sleep apnea?

In classic sleep apnea, the airways are repeatedly blocked during sleep, which leads to an interruption in breathing. Position-dependent sleep apnea is a special form of this. Here the airways are mainly blocked in the supine position.

Sleep apnea affects the quality of sleep and can have a significant impact on performance and overall health. If you have sleep apnea and supine apnea events are twice as common as those on your side, your sleep apnea is probably position dependent. Sleeping on your side can significantly reduce your symptoms.

Bipap or cpap?

BiPAP (biphasic positive airway pressure) is a form of ventilation that combines a ventilator with spontaneous breathing. The patient can breathe spontaneously through BiPAP ventilation without interrupting the preset ventilation rate.

This is a form of ventilation in intensive care that enables pressure-supported ventilation.

It is used when the patient needs to be ventilated but still needs to train their own spontaneous breathing. In the case of obstructive pulmonary diseases such as COPD or asthma, BiPAP ventilation can only be carried out with special monitoring, as there is a risk of undersupply or oversupply with respiratory volume.

CPAP therapy: help with obstructive sleep apnea

CPAP therapy is breathing therapy that takes place during sleep. It is considered the standard therapy and is the most commonly used method for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA)

Why oxygen mask?

An oxygen mask is a device that covers the face, nose and mouth to allow breathing of pure oxygen or a breathing gas mixture under difficult conditions . These include reduced atmospheric pressure, contaminated environment or hypoxia.

When to change cpap masks?

Why and how often should I get a new CPAP mask cushion?

If any part of the system shows signs of wear (cracking, cracking, discoloration, upholstery damage, etc.), you should discard and replace that component.

If you wear a face mask and find that the valve is damaged, warped, or cracked, you should replace the elbow. The mask should no longer be worn if the valve is damaged as it can then no longer fulfill its safety function.

Because your mask change schedule is unique to you, we strongly recommend that you refer to your mask user guide for detailed information.

In general, the following indicators indicate that the mask or one of its components should be replaced:

You have to keep tightening the head straps,The mask no longer feels soft and springy, but stiff,You feel that the treatment is not as effective as before,The mask cushion is slippery even after cleaning,The mask cushion is No longer clear and transparent,The mask cushion and frame show signs of wear, stiffness, cracks or fractures.
